A good story. It doesn’t matter if it’s a book, a comic, a film, a television show, or an illustration. I used to a read a lot when I was a child, and I guess its had a permanent effect on me. I have a number of original characters. It’s not about how a character looks but how they act and change. My favorite hero is flawed but redeemable and learns to overcome those flaws. For example - Sherlock, Harry Potter, Katniss, Hiccup. Entertainment is more than entertainment. I think that stories - and telling stories - are important because they teach us how to handle and rise above our own shortcomings in a positive way.
